Auto-trading With MF Global: Frequently Asked Questions

What is auto-trading?

Auto-trading is simply authorizing MF Global - Securities to execute stock or options trades as soon as we receive the recommendation from your Advisory Service.

What do I need to auto-trade?

You need:(1) an active subscription to the specific Advisory Service and (2) a brokerage account with MF Global - Securities.

Why is auto-trading so popular?

Auto-trading allows you to quickly get into and out of recommended trades – even if you are not in touch with current market conditions. Since each trade is done at your previously specified dollar amount or number of contracts, you stay in complete control.

How much money do I need to auto-trade?

For each new account, MF Global - Securities requires a $5,000 minimum. Each Advisory Service also requires a different dollar amount in order to trade their recommendations. Please contact a MF Global representative to determine the appropriate dollar amount to fund your account.

How is the dollar or contract level amount for trades determined?

Each trade is done at your previously specified dollar or contract amount. Dollar level commitments are flexible to fit your budget.

How many contracts will I be buying per recommendation?

Generally, your Advisory Service recommends the number of contracts to buy/sell. This would be called a full recommendation. Or, you may increase or decrease the multiple to meet your trading goals. For example, 2 times the recommended amount, or even one-half the recommended amount.

How does MF Global receive the recommendations from the Advisory Services?

MF Global receives entry and close out instructions via e-mail and/or fax for each trade directly from the Advisory Services.

How fast will I find out if a recommended trade has been made?

MF Global’s auto-trade service is offered to you on a best-effort basis. We enter the recommendations from your trading service as quickly and efficiently as possible. Although you can monitor account activity online, MF Global's trade desk typically executes recommendations as a block trade so that our customers receive the same fill. Therefore, the trade may not show up in your account immediately. MF Global recommends that you check your account activity online frequently. We also send out trade confirmations by U.S. mail on the next business day following the trade execution.

Can I do my own trading with a MF Global auto-trading account?

Yes. For added convenience, your auto-trading account can also be used to buy/sell options and stocks on your own. In other words, you may combine your own trading with auto-trading. However, in order to keep your own trading account separate from the advisory service recommendations, MF Global can set up an additional account number for your own trades. This involves filling out an additional securities account request form that can be found at www.mfglobalsecurities.com or calling 1-800-837-6212.

How do I stop auto-trading?

Auto-trading continues in your account until you indicate a change in status directly to MF Global. To terminate an account, we must receive something in writing – either by fax, e-mail, or letter. It is your responsibility to notify MF Global if you discontinue or allow your Advisory Service to expire.

Do you guarantee execution of each trade recommended?

No. MF Global - Securities cannot guarantee that each trade recommendation will be executed. For example, a trade may not execute due to transmission problems between the Advisory Service and MF Global - Securities, order entry problems, unforeseeable delays, etc.

How do I open an auto-trading account?

First, you need to obtain a MF Global - Securities account package. To do this, you can: (1) go to http://www.mfglobalsecurities.com, (2) call 1-800-837-6212, (3) e-mail: options@mfglobalsecurities.com or (4) fax to 312-902-6090. Next, complete and mail the account documentation to MF Global - Securities, 440 S. LaSalle Street, 20th Floor, Chicago, IL 60605. Indicate which service(s) to auto-trade. Once your completed account application and auto-trading forms are received by MF Global and funds are available in your account, an account number is assigned and trading may begin.
